Posidonius of Rhodes

What made Posidonius the greatest polymath of his time?

        Posidonius of Rhodes, often also known as Posidonius of Apameia played a large role in many aspects of Greek cilvilization. Posidonius was a stoic philosopher, a mathmetician, politician, geographer, teacher, astronomer, scientist and historian. His many achievments in each of these fields give him well known recognition today.
         Posidius, who lived from 135 BCE to 51 BCE died at the age of 84. He was born in Apameia, Syria to a Greek family, and studied in Athens under Panaetius. At the age of 40, in 95 BCE Posidius settled down in Rhodes, where he became a citizen.
